Prevent minor injuries from becoming long-term issues

Ankle sprains are a common injury among young athletes. What’s important to remember is having a professional take a look at the sprain or strain so that pain isn’t prolonged, and it doesn’t turn into something your child has to nurse for longer than needed.

“If you can’t walk or play your sport without significant pain or discomfort, you shouldn’t participate until you see a doctor,” said Steven Erickson, MD of Banner Health Sports Medicine. “Doing so can cause additional injury to the joint or a new injury from trying to protect the sprain.”
